'Tis the Season for Red!

I made this quilt last year, with a home dec remnant from Goodwill and some 4-patches made from charm packs a few years prior. It's probably the easiest quilt I ever made, and one of my favorites. Have you figured out that I love red?

I think it looks great with this felt pillow that my grandmother made.

She also made this stocking when I was born.

I love all the fun sequins. I wonder if you can find those any more.

These felt stockings must have been popular in the 1950's. My husband's mother made him one too. Were there patterns for these in the ladies magazines?

Digging out these sentimental treasures is one of my favorite parts of the holiday season. What treasures do you bring out for the holidays?

My grandma hangs 8 stockings, similar to yours, on her fireplace each year. I think Tom, the oldest, got a very elaborate santa claus with sequinned beard. Patti, my mom (and the baby of 8) got a very simple one with a felt duck, trumpet, and an elf. I don't think she even got any sequins.. I'll have to ask someone to take a picture for me.
I love your red quilt, btw.

That red quilt is fantastic! I think it's always the season of red, but it is especially cheery at this time of year. Your stockings make a perfect set- how cute!

Great red quilt! And the stockings... like that vintage feel. I'm thinking that maybe they came in kit form? Like from a needlework catalog such as Herrschner's, Lee Wards, or the like? The maker could then personalize the stocking.

Lovely festive quilt.
Our whole family had stockings. They were made by grandmother, then mother, then me, and now by my eldest ... all versions of the same stocking.

That red quilt is wonderful...just completely right...and the stockings WERE kits..and that reminds me to get mine out! I'll post mine on my blog this week (and I'm not sure if Doug has one, being so much younger?!) Thanks for the good idea...as usual.

wheeee!!!! lots of fun. My mom made us lime green felt stockings with pompom animals and that was in the mid-60's. Unfortunately it looks like my mom got rid of all that great stuff because we don't have it now and she's not around to ask. The ones you've got are real treasures.

I love the quilt and yes I figured out you love red! Me too!
I have a felt stocking that I will dig out and post. It was store bought but has that old 50's feel to it.

Holey Stocking! My grandmother made one of the red ones too! And another one for me from felt and sequins too. So I bet it is from a ladies magazine and I was born in 1956, so...this is very cool!!

Love, love, love your red quilt! That's my favorite color, and I quilt by Freddy Moran's rule that "Red is a neutral." Thanks for sharing it...now, I'll be on the lookout for a bright print too!

that red quilt is spectacular! I love red too!

I made Santa pillows like that back in 1960. there were lots of stocking patterns in the McCall's Needlework and Crafts magazines. That was one of the really great crafty magazines of that time period (1950-60's).

I love all your red quilts! This may be the year I finally make myself a red quilt; apparently I need to do so. And a yellow one. ;- )

Most of the sequins on your Christmas stockings are still available. Unfortunately the birds are not, as far as I can tell. Which is too bad because they are one of my favorite embellishments.
