Here's my version of Sujata Shah's wonderful pattern,
"Organized Chaos."
It's a joy to make, and a great way to use scraps.
The color scheme started with this home decorator fabric.
A friend and I took on the challenge to make a quilt with it.
I thought I might use it as the border.
In the end, both the fabric and the quilt shouted, "No!"
I quilted it with wool batting, and stitched in the ditch along the outside edge of each block.
Then I added perle cotton 8 details.
Keeping with the scrappy theme, the back is a hodgepodge of large scraps.
You can purchase the pattern at Sujata's etsy shop here.
Meanwhile, I was fooling around with some "orphan" blocks.
And the challenge fabric found it's home!
Love the quilt! Not sure I have the skill to make the block. Seems pretty fussy to meet everything right on. Love the colors, prints, and quilting!
ReplyDeleteYou have the ability and the eye to make any fabric at home! I just was thinking about a small medallion quilt you made a while ago. A basket block made to the center stage on your quilt. You have a way with them. Love your version of the Organozed Chaos! The pattern and color play is so you!

This is gorgeous! What a great way to use scraps.
ReplyDeleteOrganized Chaos is a wonderfully fun quilt. It looks like a complicated pattern. Did you pull all the fabrics before beginning or add as you went along? Did you lay out the blocks for placement before adding the corners to the blocks where the color continues from the diagonal blocks? It's just delightful!
ReplyDeleteAnd I really like that wide checkerboard border on your second quilt. Maybe I'll be brave some day....

Beautiful decisions.
ReplyDeleteLove! Nifty = lovely!
ReplyDeleteLove the" scrappy make do" approach which you combine so well with contemporary fabrics. Both quilts are a feast for the eye.
ReplyDeleteyou are amazing! Love your quilts.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning. Love the warm color scheme
ReplyDeleteHi! I love your new quilt! Fantastic patter and the fabrics are gorgeus! x teje
ReplyDeleteIt's really great, all the colors and the pattern, Ilove it..
ReplyDeleteThe back is so nice, love the scrappy way you did this!
Just lovely, the colours and hand-quilted details. Really love the back, too. I am considering using wool batting for my next quilt, making it both warm and light. Your inspiration fabric found a good home, too!

I recently purchased this pattern from Sujata and Organized Chaos is on my 2017 project list. Your version is fabulous - so vibrant and full of movement. Congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteYummy things happening at your house!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny & fun when the inspiration fabric doesn't make it into the quilt! I must look into Sujata's pattern -- it looks like fun.
I'm happy your orphans are finding forever homes!
Fabulous! I really love the perle cotton detail.
ReplyDeleteI love scrap quilts, and this is stunning! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour Organized Chaos is delightful! Really happy colors.:) Always a treat to see how you put your colors and fabric together. And I know I tell you that all the time, but I sooo enjoy the results of your quilting! Great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYour Organised Chaos is a wonderful party of fun and fabulous movement and colour!! It's so funny the inspiration fabric didnt make it in that quilt but it looks just right in the next one you made. A bonus that you got two quilts from the one inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI admire your ability to take all those scrappy pieces and create organized chaos! It's so colorful and energized. The original border fabric definitely didn't belong with that quilt, but did find a perfect home.!
ReplyDeleteJust lovely...both pictures..are great...and the hand big stitching...you go!!! I am quite impressed
ReplyDeleteOrganise Chaos is a beauty, love the scrappy back too.
ReplyDeleteI love your work - all of it! You did a fantastic job on "organized chaos" and i love how the original challenge fabric was used on your fun improv quilt with orphan squares.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is lovely! I like the colors, pink, red and blue in center,it is so playful, the more I look at it the more it catch me!
ReplyDeleteAn organized chaos? I see a dancing galaxy of stars! The more I look at it, the more I love it. And again, what a fabulous mix of fabrics.
ReplyDeleteYour orphan tile block has now a family, how nice!
This is a real challenge, and so successful! I believe that there is nothing more difficult than organizing a "chaos", but at the same time it is so interesting and rewarding! You never get bored with a scrap quilt. I love your use of plain strong pinks, the lovely hand quilting and the backing. You managed as usual to create harmony from chaos... you are a magician, congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is simply out of this world! WOW! I love it! You are so good at creating exciting and dancing quilts! Your eye for colour and pattern is amazing! I would also like to try this pattern sometime soon!
ReplyDeleteWow. This quilt is AMAZING!!!!
ReplyDeleteStunning quilt, I love it! The fabrics dance around each other beautifully, I love how you see the circles - and then you don't, so much fun!
ReplyDeleteYou have out-done yourself this time! I love, love, love the results.
ReplyDeleteOf course this is fabulous. Just absolutely fabulous.
ReplyDeleteIt just goes to show, there is a place for every fabric. Both lovely quilts. I like the movement and vibrancy (s that a word?) of Organized Chaos, and the quirky, unusual combinations in the second one.
ReplyDeleteYour work is always so inspiring and this one is too. Fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt!
ReplyDeleteDid you find the blocks easy to make? They look like they would not be the easiest to put together.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, it is gorgeous! Well done, love it. There is one thing lacking in my life; "TIME". Still working on Mrs. Billings. Enjoy your sunday.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant quilt. Love the "chaos".
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun quilt!!!!!! I love the backing too. It is an interesting pattern. I will remember this one. The last quilt is great too. it reminds me of Gwen Marston's work and that I wanted to tell you I followed her online class😊, finally!
ReplyDeleteI've admired your version since you posted it, Lee Ann. Especially the pink ring in the top left.
ReplyDeleteAfter looking at your orphan block quilt for a while I decided the quieter border print focuses attention on the center. And the different double blue borders are great. Love that you brought the scale of each round up. So much to look at in all your work.
Thanks for linking with Kaleidoscope of Butterflies.
This is really splendid. I'm a big fan of Sujata, and you've created a bold, gorgeous quilt with her pattern. I adore the back just as much!
