Eye Lash Progress

The paper part of this quilt is all done! I was going to be very disciplined this weekend, and get the whole thing sewn together. I figure it'll take about 10 more hours to get all the little black eyes sewn on and put the blocks together. But...

Playing with spare blocks is SO much more fun!

Ugh. I always lose interest once I've seen how the quilt will look. How about you?

  1. Sew it all together just as it is. It looks fabulous and yes I do lose interest sometimes when I see the blocks lying on the floor waiting to be put together. Why is that?

  3. Wow, love it!! The spare blocks are just gorgeous too. I don't ever lose interest, the need to finish it up is even stronger.

  4. The eyelashes are going to make a stunning quilt. Spare blocks look good, too, and no wonder you got sidetracked with them. Your comment about losing interest is likely why so many of us have so many UFOs. I've got projects that have been limping along for several years! Ultimately, though, they make it to the finish line.

  5. I lose interest once I see how it will look too because all of the fun is in choosing the fabrics, and once you see they all work well together, all that is left is hours of sewing and I want to be on to the next pile and see how it works out.

  7. Once the fabric high is gone the sewing can seem like work...

    I love your quilts though!

  8. Wow, you have made such quick progress with the eyelashes! Congrats! The spare parts look SO fun... I really like the solid HSTs on the left edge for filler... I get bored with the finishing too, but it's so rewarding to stick with it!

  9. Love it! Love it! Love 'em both! If I had to choose, well, I just couldn't. They both satisfy different needs.
Me too ~ regarding the boredom thing. Are we all so A.D.D.? So what is the answer to being able to stick with that finishing part? I love to see how they look, and must remind myself that it isn't a quilt until it is quilted. Although that doesn't help, either, as I still have many blocks that just need to be sewn together and many tops that need to be quilted. What's a girl to do?

  10. I agree with Mary! I love both quilts!
No eyelash blocks in the spare blocks quilt, haha.

As soon as I see how it's going to look, my mind goes on to the next quilt. So I try to keep the surprises coming until the end. But sometimes I don't mind sewing ten million bow tie blocks. There's a time for that too.

  11. I agree, once the fabric high has passed it's sometimes hard to keep the steam up to finish. Your eyelash quilt looks amazing! Keep going! Love the orphan block too. I am about to try one of those myself. Hope I can stay focused!

  12. The eyelash quilt looks fabulous. I don't really have a stash of unrelated blocks. What a fabulous way to get them all together.
Don't worry about having lots of projects on the go, its all perfectly normal and makes you go away and come back with a new view on what you've made. I think if you become too fixated by one project you lose perspective and that's why it becomes boring.

  16. My goodness it is so interesting how those fabrics and colors all work off of each other...so beautiful and so wonderful to study....I want one of each!

  17. Wow! I think you deserve a break after sewing all those pretty eyelashes. Putting them together is a bit of a job, but also a chance to celebrate your work so far. This is another stunning red quilt, LeeAnn!

  18. I love your eyelash quilt!
Keep going with the odd block quilt. It's a nice scrap book of projects past? :)

  21. Wow, your eyelashes are stunning! But I agree, once I know how the quilt will look, it becomes a chore to finish it. Quilter's A.D.D. - happens most every time. I have to force myself to finish the quilt, but it's worth it in the end. When I do finish it, I usually love it again.

Your 'spare parts' are very exciting! No wonder you can't stop playing with them. hee hee!

  22. I like starting new quilts and finishing bindings. The in-between can get a bit long...

    Love your Lashes, LeeAnn

  23. I am in the same boat with quilt familiarity, but since I started blogging, I feel more of an expectation to actually finish a project. That's good, right?

  24. Just came to your blog via the Selvage Blog. Loved seeing your beautiful work. I'm also a big fan of string quilts and paper piecing, and Gwen Marston's work. Sometimes it's good to take a break from one project and think about the next one.

  25. Yes, it takes a bit of discipline to get those blocks sewn together when you can already see what the finished product is going to look like. But what fun you have going with the orphan blocks! Love the center bit especially!
