Back from NYC!


This weekend I got to go on a quilting retreat in NYC, hosted by the lovely and talented Victoria. She set up a perfect sewing space in her loft, cooked for us, shared all her scraps, and set a wonderful tone of warmth and good humor.

I made this quilt, which I think I'll call "New York Scraps." It's 72 x 80. I brought only a few solid fabrics, and used scraps supplied by everyone else.

Victoria and I did a trade, where she sent me this poppy, and I made this for her. Yes, those are buttons from old shirts on the white polka dots.

I sent her this piece of vintage fabric, and look at this exquisite piece she made!! I absolutely LOVE it.


Everyone was so much fun and so creative! Bonnie sat next to me and made these cool scrappy hexagons.


Karen was across the room, quietly whipping out these masterpieces from scraps.


Helen pieced together these colorful scraps and will soon be wearing a very fun vest.


It was great to see Victoria at work--cut, sew, cut, sew--then...

Wa-la! Like magic. She's completely amazing.


Kim made this cute owl for a future Halloween quilt.


Jackie masterfully put together a paper-pieced table topper, then played with Victoria's Mary.



I didn't get a photo of Jessica's new quilt, but she brought this HAND-PIECED finish to show. Incredible!

Thank you, thank you Victoria and everyone. I will hold a warm smile in my heart from this retreat for a long, long time.

    Wow, what a creative weekend you had! Everyone's work is just glorious! I love your NY Scraps top - another stunner. And we finally get to see your little beauty for Victoria. I LOVE the buttons on it, and the great quilting too. You must be on such a creative high!

    What you made this weekend is a quilt I have always wanted to try.....of course just love all that red in there and those polka dots too cute!
    What a great memory quilt of what appears to be an amazing weekend of just fun , fun, fun!

    So glad you are home safely!! It was so much fun to sit and sew with you all weekend long, what a pleasure!! I am so glad that I got to see your Eyelash quilt in person too. By the way, I knew you would go home with a gorgeous quilt top! You persevered and it paid off big time!!

    LeeAnn, It was fantastic having you here... Why on earth is SEATTLE so far away.... I loved watching you hand select each and every piece for your quilt...You have an amazing eye for color and print...I adore you my friend... A fabulous group of ladies, and great memories have been made...

    wow wow wow.the poppy quilt turned out really well - my favorite touch is definitely the polka dot fabric and the extra little dots! love the zig zag quilt and how it fades in and out a bit and yet the zigs and the zags are still really apparent - excellent job. so fun to see what everyone else was working on too. wonderful! Victoria even cooked for you all and still got so much done? She is a wonder.

    I love how you take and present photos of your own quilts.
    it was really great to meet you this weekend~ I hope you enjoyed every minute of your time in NYC and that you'll come back soon. The HST quilt is stunning-- just triangles but so YOU. Visiting the retreaters' blogs after spendng time with them in person has been really cool. All of the sudden someone's blogging style, quilting style, and IRL personality merge into a more complete picture of the quilter herself. Seeing the big picture makes me appreciate blogland and quilting so much more.
    I hope we'll have a chance to meet up again someday~

    Your zigzag quilt is brilliant. I started one a few months ago but it was so boring I put it away. Now I just have to get back to it. I need to make a few changes! Isn't it great to spend some time with like minded people? So inspirational. Thanks so much for the fabulous photos.

    What colorful & beautiful quilts! Wish I had been there! I don't sew quilts, but I do a lot of hand stitching on my fabric collage. Love, love, love to hand stitch all over the place.     When I stop to read blogs, I keep coming back to your NYC scrap quilt. It is truly amazing. And that you made it over the weekend from scraps people provided! How inspired. Your colourful quilt captured my eye and my imagination.

    Prior to this quilt, it was your inspired by Anna Williams quilt that caught my eye. I can always count on you and Victoria to show such vibrant, joyful quilts that remind me why I quilt and inspire me to do more.
