Red!


 I finished the Scrappy Red Trips top this week.  



Scrappy Red Trips 60" x 72"




It was an experiment to see if I could use all reds in a quilt.  



Can't say I'm all that fond of it.  

But it got me thinking about other red quilts I've made.  I was surprised to see how many!



The first one was made in a class with Kaffe Fassett in about 2006. 



I made this from the scraps of the Kaffe quilt later that year.



This was inspired by the large print that I found at Goodwill.  I think it was made in about 2007.




This one was inspired by a quilt on the cover of the book, Georgia Quilts, in about 2008.



I made this one in a class with Freddy Moran in 2010.  The basket block is in the book, Freddy and Gwen Collaborate Again, by Gwen Marsten and Freddy Moran.




I made "Eyelashes" in 2010, with a pattern in Kaffe Fassett's book, Quilt Romance.




This was made in 2010 with some gals over at the 15 minutes play blog.  
It's inspired by one called "Red Sticks" in Freddy and Gwen Collaborate Again.

Hmm, will I ever get tired of red?  Maybe.

    They new quilt is lovely but I think I like the 2nd one with the little bit of turquoise best.
    If you feel the Scrappy Trip is too red, you could use a contrasting thread for quilting, maybe even a thick hand embroidery thread hand quilted with large stitches.

    Wow! Your new one is very saturated isn't it? I like how you played with the value in it to make it have movement. So many gorgeous red quilts all under one roof! I adore the one with the Goodwill print esp.--very inspirational.:)

    I like it! It's like an incredibly interesting tone on tone fabric. Put it on a bed or over the back of a couch with some red and turquoise pillows.

    No, I don't think you'll tire of red.
    I think the Red Trip just needs a chance to grow on you. Especial favorites from the rest: tulips, eyelashes & baskets. Quite am oeuvre!

    ....Get tired of Red???? Not a chance!! These are all gorgeous, and I really like the scrappy trips quilt! Maybe you just need to put it away for a while.....I'll bet the next time you see it, you'll love it! Cuz it's fabulous!

    Just wondering when I read your post what would a quilt made by you look like if it had to be all neutrals. Color wheel neutrals. Not red is a neutral quote. LOL.

    Couldn't pick my favourite of your red quilts they are all fabulous. I love how your trip around the world has turned out, maybe it will grow on you. Makes me want to make one as well!     You really have the gift to work with all kinds of reds, please do not stop! I love them all.
    For your new one, I like all the little sparkles with dots and flowers but I imagine you may want to make a contrast with a special border... to be invented!

    I love the red scrappy trip, but it would be nice to have a little blue and lime green to break it up... maybe you can slice it and add some pieces of other colors! Your red quilts are fab!

    Stunning! Gorgeous! I absolutely LOVE your red trip. I think I know what you are feeling, though. I made a top of reds and felt like it made my mouth pucker -- too red! But I thnk I actually like it, and will have it back from the machine quilter soon. You'll see it (eventually) at my blog. What really makes your red trips sparkle is that little humble white floral that pops throughout. I just love it.

    I love the reds in your quilts. I think you might have even more that you haven't even put in this post. The first one from Kaffe was also one of my first quilts. Mine is more autumn colours and it's a favourite. I think Kaffe Fassett has been a huge inspiration for many quilters. He certainly got me going in the early days.
