A friend's daughter is having a baby.
We don't know if it's a boy or girl.
I was told the baby's home is "very modern...
clean lines, little color, mostly white and gray."
Definitely not my style.
What to do?
I consulted my go-to book for baby quilt inspiration.
Amish quilts look modern to me.
They're also something I like to make.
I settled on this one.
I like it for its scrappy strips and unique sashing.
I modified the design, used a modern color palate,
and quilted it with a modern grid.
A quick bow and an Ikea bag,
and I'm ready for the baby shower!
VERY nice -- one lucky baby!
ReplyDeleteA great looking quilt! I think your fabric choice is perfect for a modern baby.
ReplyDeleteAnd who wouldn't be thrilled with that?
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! This one's going to steal the show for sure. Wonderful baby quilt!
ReplyDeleteLove how you took an Amish classic and made it your own. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous....love the colours!!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent. I have a baby coming into our family, I'll be a great auntie for the first time and I'm pretty excited. Just waiting on the young couple to share a color theme and I think your choice is perfect. Might just glean some inspiration from this one!
ReplyDeleteOh very nice modern baby quilt - love it and the original in the book!
ReplyDeleteChinese Coins is one of my favorites and your version is lovely for a modern baby. Congratulations on a beautiful finish.
ReplyDeleteYour interpretation and color palate are very successful! I did not know this book and I think of ordering it. You are right, Amish quilts have a modern style and are never "demodes". Perfect with the Ikea bag. You inspire me for my next baby quilt!
ReplyDeleteStriking - modern - really cool!
ReplyDeleteSimple and so elegant I love colors !
ReplyDeletePerfect gift for a modern baby.
ReplyDeleteThinking out of your comfort zone makes wonder too! I love this book also, Here and then I have a look at it again and again... Amish quilts are a fave forever!

This is very much like you: clear, fresh, unobstructed. And with a touch of red! I do not know much about Amish quilts... I thought they were elaborate and full of (mainly dark) colour. I see that traditional can go a long way.
ReplyDeleteBeauty! I am a huge fan of Amish quilts for inspiration, and I've had this book in my shopping cart for a while (time to buy). This is a beautiful interpretation - thank you!
ReplyDeleteGreat solution! Modern, but not, enough color but not to much! lucky baby!
ReplyDeleteLove it LeeAnn! I'm just adding borders to an Amish inspired quilt, the simplicity of the pattern works so well.
ReplyDeleteI have that book, too! I will look at it differently from now on...
ReplyDeleteThis is just lovely, especially the colour choice. I'm sure the parents and the bub will love it. PS I have that IKEA bag too!
ReplyDeleteYou made a beautiful gift, a delicate and very pretty quilt. Love your choice of quilting, too. It is fun to see the inspiration quilt next to yours. Both similar and different. The choice of colors makes a big impact!
ReplyDelete; )
wonderful baby quilt! Amish is seeming to have a revival and I'm all for it.
ReplyDeleteYour simple quilting looks great and so are the colors.
YOu'll be a big hit at the shower
Wonderful quilt! I am sure it will be treasured!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this will be very well received. They may put it on the wall! A beautiful and sympathetic gift. :D
ReplyDeleteI think you made a perfect choice--modern and tradition all in one!
ReplyDeletePerfect for a "less is more" house! I'm sure they'll love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful gift. I love your neo-Amish quilt!
ReplyDeleteA perfect interpretation. You never cease to amaze me!
ReplyDeleteA lovely baby quilt, perfect for the 'modern' family home! I've often thought the Amish quilts were way ahead of their time, with simplicity & use of solids.
ReplyDeleteI've got two baby quilts to make in the next two months. I love the idea of updating an Amish quilt with brighter modern fabrics. This looks so simple and cozy and usable.
ReplyDeletebeautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteThis looks to me like the perfect quilt for a baby in a modern home: pretty, gorgeous colour scheme, that would look good anywhere, but pared back and simple.
ReplyDeleteAmazing and perfect. The simplicity is so good, and the colors just gorgeous. The bag is a perfect addition and package, thanks for that idea!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful in it's simplicity and perfect for a modern baby quilt. I like that it's a design that will continue to look stylish even past the baby years.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful gift! I've made some quilts inspired by that book too.
ReplyDeleteThat's a quilt that, even with stains from green peas and carrots, will look great.
ReplyDeleteLove your inspiration, (that's a great source book) and interpretation, and how you were so successful in stepping into a different style. I am sure it is a gift that will be both loved and treasured.
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing gift. Thanks for the inspiration. i am thinking of doing my own version of this to complement the color palette I chose for my son's room
