Thinking of Fathers


I just finished this quilt top,
all made from shirts that were worn by my father, my husband and myself.



It includes seven pockets,



several shirt buttons,



a few labels,



 some tucks,



and a very special paisley that belonged to my dad.  



The shirt backs will make up the quilt back.

I'll quilt this one by hand, feeling the gratitude for 
my father and my husband, 
and how they've contributed to who I am today.

    I made quilts from my father in law's shirts after he died for his wife, children and grandchildren. They did not know that I was making them And were surprised and shocked on Christmas morning. I love your quilt and the shirts you used! Full of memories!

    Very nice. I have been wishfully wanting to make a log cabin quilt so this feeds the fancy of that thought. :) I imagine it will be super cuddly with the hand quilting. : ) Girls need good Fathers.... I like that you added some of your shirts to the mix. Thanks for sharing . Janita

    Love the way the top turned out! I too like to use all the bits to add interest - pockets, labels, buttons, etc. It is amazing how much fabric is in the back of a shirt!

    Your inventiveness is oceanic!!!
    Apart from the blend of blues, which I love, the idea of adding the pockets, labels, tucks and buttons adds the unexpected, fun element. And that paisley on white makes it so brigth.
    What will you come up with, in the hand quilting process?

    It's beautiful! It looks like it will be so cozy, esp. with the hand quilting. I love all the extra details from the shirts that you included! And using the shirt backs for the quilt back is a fun idea.

    I love this pattern, esp. for using up old clothing. I have a bunch of family clothing saved with this pattern in mind, I just have to find the time to do it.
