Visit with Marit!


This summer's finale was a visit with one of my favorite quilt-makers, Marit, from Norway!
She was in the area visiting her in-laws, but I got to steal her away for a weekend.  



First, we visited Buffy for show and tell.  Here's Marit showing her stunning self-portrait.  
She made it in a workshop with Bodil Gardner.




We visited some fabric shops, and then bought a heap of shirts from Goodwill.




The next morning, I awoke to find Marit's treasures beautifully organized and stacked on the couch.




Later, we got out my "orphans."  I didn't know what to do with these vintage churn dash blocks.
Right away, she noticed how well they went with my scrappy shirt stripe blocks.  Yea!




Then I got out my red and green blocks, and she was off and running.  







These are still on my design wall, getting their tweaks while I get back to quilting flimsies.

    Wow when you two get together you sure know how to have a quilty party!!! I really love both of those new quilts on your design wall. Marits self portrait is wonderful too!!!

    We had soooo much fun! The weekend flew by quickly. Being able to see and touch your beautiful quilts (they are so soft!) is a wonderful treat. Inspired and grateful for a lovely stay in your beautiful, warm and generous house.

    wheee! you are both so talented - fun to see you working together. love both the orphan block quilts - very different. always so much fun to play with someone else's orphans.

    I've seen her blog but had no idea she is the person behind those amazing appliqué pieces! I've admired them for years.
    I can just see the fabric flying as you two worked together -- how much fun!

    Another pair of eyes is often just what we need. Thanks for your post and photos because it all is inspiration for me. I took out liberated red and blue log cabins recently, stitched them together and am tempted to add a plain border-it will be a real small lap quilt. But seeing your two quilts may help me be more creative (and less lazy!) with the log cabins; I could use them as a large center for a medallion quilt. Thanks!

    LeeAnn, That visit from Marit sounds like so much fun!Her portrait is so cheerful! Both the quilts clearly they have your stamp on them. I am coming there soon, can't wait to see you and Buffy!

    Wow now who knew orphans could have such a great new life with two quilters collaborating? Love the outcome! Nicely done ladies :0).

    Oh wow, that looks like it was a truly creative weekend. What fun! Wish I could have been a fly on the wall. Marit is such an inspiration to me, and so are you. All that talent together! No wonder all your playing together looks so wonderful!

    Love your shirt stripe blocks. Makes me want to go play in my plaids and stripes fabrics! And the "leftover" blocks one is coming together - what a knockout that will be! (loved the word in there too)
