This summer's finale was a visit with one of my favorite quilt-makers, Marit, from Norway!
She was in the area visiting her in-laws, but I got to steal her away for a weekend.
First, we visited Buffy for show and tell. Here's Marit showing her stunning self-portrait.
She made it in a workshop with Bodil Gardner.
We visited some fabric shops, and then bought a heap of shirts from Goodwill.
The next morning, I awoke to find Marit's treasures beautifully organized and stacked on the couch.
Later, we got out my "orphans." I didn't know what to do with these vintage churn dash blocks.
Right away, she noticed how well they went with my scrappy shirt stripe blocks. Yea!
Then I got out my red and green blocks, and she was off and running.
How fun! I have known Marit for years, we belong to the same real life guild. Small world:)
ReplyDeleteWhat great fun you Ladies were having. Love the new take on your orphan blocks. Will look forward to seeing what eventually happens to them. Love the red and green.
ReplyDeleteWow when you two get together you sure know how to have a quilty party!!! I really love both of those new quilts on your design wall. Marits self portrait is wonderful too!!!
ReplyDeleteSometimes, all it takes is another perspective. Lucky visit I would say.
ReplyDeleteWow, you and Marit in the same room...explosive talent!! Oh, and I ADORE Marit's self portrait, wow, that is divine. You quilts on the wall are going to be amazing! xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post ... so much energy in those photos ...
ReplyDeleteMarit is one of my favorite quilters, too.
We had soooo much fun! The weekend flew by quickly. Being able to see and touch your beautiful quilts (they are so soft!) is a wonderful treat. Inspired and grateful for a lovely stay in your beautiful, warm and generous house.

Wow what fun. it's like you have had a personal coach!
ReplyDeletewheee! you are both so talented - fun to see you working together. love both the orphan block quilts - very different. always so much fun to play with someone else's orphans.
ReplyDeleteI've seen her blog but had no idea she is the person behind those amazing appliqué pieces! I've admired them for years.
ReplyDeleteI can just see the fabric flying as you two worked together -- how much fun!
Hi! I can imagine you had so much fun! Both of the layouts are beautiful and also the quilt on your table! x Teje
ReplyDeleteHavin' waaaaay too much fun! Love all the projects.
ReplyDeleteToo much fun! I'd like to have both of those Norwegian quilters over -- Marit and Mrs. Moen. or any or you, especially Nifty!
ReplyDeleteAnother pair of eyes is often just what we need. Thanks for your post and photos because it all is inspiration for me. I took out liberated red and blue log cabins recently, stitched them together and am tempted to add a plain border-it will be a real small lap quilt. But seeing your two quilts may help me be more creative (and less lazy!) with the log cabins; I could use them as a large center for a medallion quilt. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh, I do like all of these...Isn't it nice to play fabric with a friend?!!
ReplyDeleteLeeAnn, That visit from Marit sounds like so much fun!Her portrait is so cheerful! Both the quilts clearly they have your stamp on them. I am coming there soon, can't wait to see you and Buffy!
ReplyDeletewow, what a great time you two must have had together. She really rocked your blocks. Cant wait to see your finished version of these pieces.
ReplyDeleteYou girls just had way too much fun. Very very impressive. I wanna come play next time. ;-)
