"Geraniums" 22" x 28" |
Here's my first rendition of a work by the amazing Edrica Huws.
I'm using the technique I learned from Freddy Moran.
You use a glue stick to secure the scraps to a foundation.
Then you sandwich the top, batting and backing, and free-motion around the edges.
I love the look of the raw edges and random strings.
Edrica made all of hers with hand stitching.
This one is called, "Geraniums by Window," made in 1986.
I feel I have so much to learn from copying Edrica's works. She really was a master.
I'll be making more!
Wow your piece is amazing. I'll have to look up her work, I love the look of it. Can't wait to see what else she inspires in you!
ReplyDeleteYou make it look so easy! I'm going to have to try that.
ReplyDeleteSo cool.

ReplyDeleteFantastic. You have done a great job. I love to try it one day. I did played with paper collage, but this looks much more fun! I'm trying to her book from Japan - Hugs Nat
ReplyDeleteThis technique suits you! I'm eager to see more & eager to try it myself.
ReplyDelete{don't tell anyone, but I like yours the best}
Your Geraniums are just fabulous!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is wonderful, LeeAnn, I love the reds and blues, but I hope you'll forgive me for saying that Edrica's use of light is just masterful. I'm amazed at what she accomplished just by choosing fabrics -- no painting or dyeing going on here! It's a timely reminder for me, because I have spent the past week looking at fabric paints. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see more of the series! I think you've made a good choice for someone to learn from, and I hope I will learn something too. :)
Your flower pots and saucers are just perfect for the posies! The dots and plaids are a charming choice for a floral, too.
ReplyDeleteYou nailed it! This looks fabulous......you have us all wanting to give it a go. You do have great color sense, the layout of your colors is just perfect!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sewing
I love it! the colors are perfect, and honesty I like yours better :) you say you glue fabric scraps to a foundation, would that be muslin? I really want to give it a go.

ReplyDeletefantastic work-this technique has unleashed even more of your abundant creativity! I had not heard or Edrica! I cannot wait to look her up as I luv what I am seeing here!

ReplyDeleteI had a go with the glue stick but it seemed to come out the other side and what does it do to the iron?
Love your new project! Just incredible to see what can be done with scrap pieces. Really, really love how you include the plaids and play off your inspiration piece. Great work LeeAnn!
ReplyDeleteNo stopping you!! I loved it at Rebels and love the final quilting touches. You have a gift!
ReplyDeleteA great artist! "creating order out of chaos…" Thank you for sharing the link. Fantastic work. Reminds me a bit of Janet Bolton, only a lot more complex. And Bodil Gardner...
ReplyDeleteYour ode is beautiful, too! So many ways to create beauty out of chaos (or fabric). Hope to see more of this from you, later on…

It's lovely! I'm looking forward to seeing more of yours!
ReplyDeleteGreat technique to use if you know the quilt isn't going to get too much rough handling. This it textile art at its best. Edrica's piece is beyond belief. She has used the scraps to capture the depth and movement of the piece so cleverly. I am off to check out your link about her. I am sure this is the beginning of a whole series of works by you!
ReplyDeleteI'm so loving your work, you must tell us more about your process, it looks like so much fun.
ReplyDeleteAmazing!
ReplyDeleteSo artistic! You did a very good interpretation.
ReplyDeleteJust GORGEOUS! Well done!
ReplyDeleteI bet you can't stop smiling everytime you look at it!
Hi, Nifty. So glad I finally found time to stop by. This is just so exciting--you've finally taken the leap into fabric collage and results are so fun and beautiful. Congratulations! And thanks for showing Freddy Moran's work--that must have been a really cool weekend.
ReplyDeletebest, nadia
Your work is amazing and so joyful, you caught "the thing" to make a masterpiece 'à la manière de' Edrica Huws... and Nadia from Multicolored Pieces! It is truly a piece of art.
ReplyDeleteWow, you made an amazing interpretation of the original work! This looks like a fun way to work with the fabrics. I esp. like your background! Do you put batting behind before you do the stitching around all the pieces?
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to have found you. Your work is so fresh and free spirited . . . I love it!
ReplyDeleteI am just a beginner to quilting, but since I have started, it is all that I can think about. I would say, that I am hooked, LOL.
I'm adding your blog to my blog-list, so that I will never miss a post :)
Your newest blogging sister and fellow pacific-northwesterner, Connie :)
Wow. I adore the original, and your wonderful take on it. Both are fabulous. I haven't heard of Edrica before, but am definitely going to check her out. Many thanks for sharing!
