Cowgirl Dreams

"Cowgirl Dreams" 80" x 80"

This is one of those quilts where I can honestly say,
"The fabric made me do it."



Since before I started making quilts, I've been collecting fabric with a cowgirl theme. 
Some of it goes back to 1997!
I think it's because of watching all those TV Westerns as a kid.


  

One of my favorite things about this fabric is the names of the characters.
The cowgirls are Emmy Lou, Grace, Red, Ma, Kitty, Ginny, Nell, Jesse, Jolene and Rosa.





The cowboys are Hal, Hap, Slim, Squirt, Tex, Luke, Jeb, Rey, Gus and Pole Cat.




The horses are Sadie, Smoke, Maverick, Rio, Blanco, Big Star, Cookie, Juniper,
Mojave and Freckles.




A cowgirl needs her boots, too.  So they fit in the corner stars.




I decided it needed fringe, and found this fake buckskin.  Perfect!
I'm looking forward to quilting on those rope lines.





I think the cowgirl spirit might fit for all of us quilt-makers.

The pattern for this quilt comes from the book, Freddy and Gwen Collaborate Again, 
by Gwen Marston and Freddy Moran.
It tells how to make the large center star.  I added the corner stars and border.

    I loved all those old Westerns, and I had a serious crush on Roy Rogers. Great roping and fringe on your Lone Star(s) quilt. Delightful!!

    What! No Silver among the horses. Mind you I don't remember there being any cowgirls in "The Lone Ranger"! An amazing fabric collection and an appropriate pattern - all stars every one!

    Woohoo!!! I love all things cowgirl and this quilt is the queen of the rodeo!! The fringing is such a fun addition!! A truly wonderful quilt!!

    What fun is this? Is the first showing of this project? It is just too too fun.
    Love the fringe detail. I had a fringed vest and match belt in the 70's.
    Great use of these fun cowboy/girl themed fabrics.

    I used that cowgirl fabric as a backing for a quilt that used Roy Rogers and Dale Evans fabric a few years back. I gifted it to a girlfriend who wanted to be Dale when she grew up. Love your rendition. It's mighty purty.

    Delightful.... love the cowgirl spirit. For some reason only the boys got cowboy boots in my family growing up. We didn't live on a farm maybe that is just how it was. Now, My daughters have cowgirl boots and so do my granddaughters. We're living on the fun side of life :) They look so cute wearing them. They would love this quilt.

    Newly I discovered the Victory girls with Minick & Simpson. Here I discover the cowgirl spirit! American woman had to be brave to cope with the New World. I don't know all these films but I enjoyed watching Dr. Quinn with my daughters... and I loved her fringed coat!

    Here is a proof of how much we can tell with our quilts. This one is again a delight, so different from your other quilts but again so nifty!

    I too grew up watching Roy Rogers and Lone Ranger - but I was waaay more interested in the horses than the humans.

    I, too, grew up with Westerns - Roy and Dale, Trigger, and the others . . . it wasn't Wednesday unless Dad and Grandpa watched their shows after dinner!

    A great quilt that celebrates the iconic images of the pioneer spirit. I have memories of me in a cowgirl suit for Christmas at age 4.
    Australian iconic images are miners or soldiers. The girls in bonnets and long skirts.
    The block choice and detail are happy and bright.

    I remember those prints when they came out. Nothing tame about the way you have used them. Love the rope background fabric. It looks like goldwork from the photo.

    Love it, what a fun happy quilt. that fringe is a great touch - hope it's not a pain in the ass while you're quilting. A couple of years ago a quilter donated her crumbs to me and I got some of that red cowboy fabric with the guys' names. I've really enjoyed using it - such happy fabric.

    This makes me think about so many tv shows:Daniel Boone, Gunsmoke, Rawhide, The Rifleman Bonanza,The Virginian, The Big Valley...Using the fringe is genius. What a great quilt...but then I am so inspired by all of your quilts. I feel like you are a kindred spirit. Thank you for all of the sharing on your blog!

    I wish I had the cowgirl personality! In France as well we had the American Western culture on TV. Anyway, your quilt is wonderful and so original again. I admire your creativity!

    Fun, fun, fun! Love the cowgirl theme and that fringe is just fabulous. I've got some of that same cowgirl fabric in my old stash, but in different colors. :)
