Half Done!



I've been stitching this in the evenings with black perle 8 thread.
At first I only stitched around the appliqué edges and pieced seams.



Then I was inspired by Sujata's recent travels in India, and added more thread.
The lines are about 1/2" apart.  
I'm always astonished by how texture adds so much to a piece.



I'm so glad I spent the extra time.  I love running my fingers over it.



There are 48 blocks total, 24 more to go.  
Probably done by April.

    Oh all that stitching is just gorgeous--I love a lot of stitching on a quilt--I did it on a gift for a dear friend-- "spider in the garden" quilt and she still comments on how she loves the "feel" of it. hugs Julierose

    This quilt just makes my heart go pitter patter. The perle cotton quilting is perfect. Will you please tell me what size needle are you using?

    I would never have thought of using black thread. It is so bold! You are always taking those chances and the results are so stunning. I agree, the extra texture of the linear stitching makes such a difference.

    Love your quilts. The hand quilting is beautiful, almost kantha quilting , but also echo stitching.

    I always admire your quilts and you are making yet another gorgeous quilt. Love the colours and how you have alternated the appliqué blocks with the half log cabins. Super. The extra stitching around the appliquéd flowers absolutely MAKES the quilt sing. I can see the Indian influence, the idea of Kantha stitches. Beautiful.

    This is such a fun quilt with it's plaids, prints, and bright plain fabrics. I wonder where your inspiration came from? I once saw a tiny picture of a hooked rug in a magazine (which I cut out because it was an inspiration to me) with flowers in squares and log cabin style squares. It was in natural tans and browns, I think. This quilt reminds me of that rug.

    I especially like your quilting. I think the outline quilting on the flowers gives them movement, almost as though the wind is making them sway.

    So Beautiful LeAnn!.... In a world of machine quilting, hand quilting will always be my true love. I have been thinking of using some black Pearle cotton on a quilt for my granddaughter.... time to take the plunge ! janita

    What a beautiful, cheerful quilt! I agree that the stitching really adds a lot. I applaud you for having the patience to do all of that hand quilting, and so quickly too. The last time I hand quilted an entire quilt it took me 5 years. It was the last quilt I ever hand quilted.

    Don't you know? I am going to quilt my tulip top (following yours, from a Georgian quilt) and I also chose pearl cotton... It is in the air!

    wow the stitching really adds so much texture and dimension to already fabulous quilt.
    What sized needle are you using? Do you use a hoop? I love the look of pearl cotton, have only big stitched once and had some difficulty.

    Just love this project, I wish I could run my hand over it too!

    LeeAnn, Your stitching looks gorgeous! This quilt is so beautifully done, like all of your quilts it is fun and lively. I am not sure where I have been? Or how did I miss this post? I was right there in Seattle when you wrote this post.. Hmm... got to get back to reading my favorite blogs again!
    I am glad I got to see you work on it. Wish we had more time together.
    Good thing there is always that next visit on the horizon.
