Carnival at Night Fini!

Carnival at Night, 75" x 75"
This quilt began in a class with Freddy Moran over a year ago.




It all started with my large print fabrics that had black backgrounds.  




I wanted them to mush together with sparks of color.




Eventually, it needed a little lightening up, 
so I added a few prints that didn't have black in them.  




It was fun to finally use those little comical faces.







Besides picking the fabrics for this quilt, 
the most fun I had was doodling around the dots!

The Lone Star pattern comes from Freddy and Gwen Collaborate Again, 
by Gwen Marston and Freddy Moran.

    As whole quilt it has a strong graphic quality. The close ups of the prints are like a Mardi Gras of color and fun. Great combination.

    Really joyful! I have one Lone Star under my belt -- a baby quilt for a young man in college now. :-} Maybe it's time for another.....
    We have a lot if Mexican masks at my museum, not as jolly as those!

    This is just a fabulous quilt! I love all the color! Love your doodles around the dots. I had not heard of Freddy Moran until your last post. After I read that post I went looking for information about her on the internet and found the book you used for this quilt and ordered it.

    Wee! what a super quilt. so many fun fabrics to discover! Looks like quilting it was really fun too. I love that dotty kaffe fabric. The b&w strip around the star is just fabulous with the mix of of the two prints.
    You have struck the perfect balance of chaos and control! I give this quilts a 10 or an A+++

    Super fun, Nifty! The border fabric is perfect, and super job on the circle doodling! Brave to do in the contrasting green, but it's perfect! And who likes to quilt in black thread on black fabric? Brilliant idea! I've to remember that one! Have a great day!

    Absolutely fabulous! A super example of a Freddie/Gwennie collaboration quilt. Your background fabric ( ie the corners) sets off the huge star so well. I have that book so perhaps I should make one too!

    This is a fun quilt! I love the contrast in scale between the fabrics, so well chosen. The book is definitely one of my favorites!!Lots of inspiration, tips and energy.

    Your machine quilting on dotty fabrics turned out great! This quilt is amazing...It's fun to spot all the prints in the star. Looks like a carnival for sure! I bet it feels great to have a finish!
