Ever since my dear friend, Katell, posted about The 1718 Coverlet
last January, my quilting mind has been able to think of little else.
I've been gathering fabrics,
Piecing little 5 inch blocks,
and brushing up on my appliqué skills.
There's a quilt-along on Facebook.
They have a plan to finish the quilt by the end of the year.
Not me. I'm giving myself until 2018.
I also went to see the tulips in LaConner / Mt. Vernon Washington, last weekend.
Always a stunning show!
I love your fabric choices. I am having fun with this quilt along too. It's a little bit addictive. :)
ReplyDeleteSlow and steady wins the race ... or so they say, but why race on a quilt?
ReplyDeleteI just ordered that book last week. Obsession is about the right word. I haven't started yet, but I might cave anytime. I love your blocks.
ReplyDeleteYay for you doing the coverlet!! I love your blocks so far. I think it's great idea to give yourself until 2018, and take time to savour the experience. Such a beautiful field of tulips, they really are such a beautiful flower.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful obsession! Your gift for associating colors and your skill will make for sure a masterpiece of a quilt... slowly but steadily.
ReplyDeleteVery nice to read this post about the 1718 coverlet. I am making something as well using the wide variety of blocks as inspiration. I didn't know that there was a quilt a long and shall go and check that out. Just wanted to say that what you have done so far looks fab.
ReplyDeleteit's beautiful. I'd say feel free to swap out blocks and make it your own.
ReplyDeleteAHH the best part of spring..... Tulips! I had no idea there were tulip fields in Washington. I thought I had to go to Holland to see such a sight. Beautiful!!! There is a town 20 miles from where I live that has a tulip festival every year. Pella, Iowa. I so look forward to Spring each year. They plant thousands of bulbs.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing your beautiful twist on the coverlet :) Already can see it is going to be wonderful. Janita
The tulips are breath taking. Can see your obsession with the bock. Love the quilt!
ReplyDeleteI just ordered the book, too--your blocks are very pretty--love the fabrics you've chosen. What a wonderful long term project. hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeletePerfect sewing and piecing for your first blocks, and how happy your colors are! Just as happy as the tulip field.
ReplyDeleteI will begin this quilt along in July probably... or sooner?
Good fabric choices and I like the applique block very much.
ReplyDeleteA lovely project LeeAnn, I look forward to seeing your progress. I love your choice of fabrics.

ReplyDeleteOh so pretty! Love the idea of a slow project.
ReplyDelete; )
Good idea to allow yourself extra time! I haven't started the April blocks yet--maybe in May?!?
ReplyDeleteLove that you're giving yourself until 2018! Too funny.:) It's a great pattern. I have enjoyed all the ones I've seen so far. So pretty to see the tulips too. I'm excited that we might actually get to see them ourselves this year--finally!
ReplyDeleteYou're brave to start such a noteworthy undertaking! I've seen Katell's article, and have told myself that I need to learn more and have more experience before I start such a project...
ReplyDeleteKeep it up (slowly but steadily) and encourage us to follow your steps.
Oh! and i love the tulips!
looking forward to watching your progress on this!
ReplyDeletewow those tulips are amazing!!!
It's an amazing quilt -- so old! By hand?!?
ReplyDeleteOh, the tulip fields are so beautiful!
What an exciting project! I love complex pieced quilts, one gets to use so many different prints in one quilt. Can't wait to see your interpretation of the quilt.
ReplyDeleteYour colours are great (as always:). I can imagine it is addictive. Seeing you working at it almost make me start it....but I have to finish others. How nice those tulips! For a moment I thought you were close to my home. We have a lot of bulb fields at the moment. I didn't know you had them too?!
