On the Design Wall

A few weeks ago, I took a class with the wonderful Sujata Shah called "Organized Chaos."



I used the fabric on the left for the color scheme.



Sujata said, "These blocks are like potato chips."
She was right!  I just kept making more and more.  



And more!  I was having so much fun, I decided to make it a queen size quilt.



I've always been fascinated by kaleidoscope quilts, and 
Sujata's pattern has a special twist.
I just love the way some of the blocks seem to burst out of their seams!




This is about half the quilt, not yet sewn together.
My design wall isn't big enough for the whole thing, so I'll make one section at a time.



A final check on value before I begin sewing the rows together.  
OK, ready to sew!

    YesI love kaleidoscope quilts as well. so many possible variations. I love yours: the colours are brilliant and so individual. must have been a great workshop.

    I love the bold colors, this will be a very vibrant quilt, and a real one! The kind that covers you up when you are cold and tired... Love from Paris, a bit autumnly now.

    Hi, Nifty. I'm so glad I started my day by visiting your cheerful blog. What a gorgeous quilt you're showing. I enjoyed looking back over your old posts and seeing your trip to France and your visit with Katell. Soooo fun! I did manage to see Bonnie Hull in Salem this summer when I was in Portland for a family wedding/reunion. One of these years I'll try to make it to Seattle to visit you!

    Fun to read the upper comments from such beautiful people! Your blog is just like a cosy place to meet.
    This quilt will be a masterpiece again! These warm colors are shining, making sometimes stars that I love to look for. It will be a great, great quilt, with a millefiori effect. So much work, but a total reward!
    PS : save tripes from these fabrics for a pineapple quilt, would be great too ;-)

    Well, I don't see any of those blues in the inspiration fabric, and they really make the quilt! I think there is a good lesson for me there. This is going to be a real beauty. :D

    This wonderful quilt is not in Sujata's book, which I own. There are other great quilts there, but not this one. Hope it's the first chapter in a new book!

    Sujata' quilt is lovely and so is yours. Good idea to use a fabric for inspiration and not include it in the quilt. Thanks for sharing photos of the various stages.

    OO I love this pattern!! And you are right about the liveliness, I can keep looking at it and see different patterns popping up. Your choice of fabrics is (again;)) very nice.
