New Book!
If you love African American improvisational quilts as much as I do, you'll want to get this book! Better yet, see the show at the Mingei International Museum in San Diego through November 6.
I know I won't be in San Diego soon, so I ordered it from the Museum store for $18.95. Well worth it! (Back cover)
It shows about 50 quilts collected by Corinne Riley of the Chicago Art Institute. She bought them on many trips to the South over 35 years. This is the first time these quilts have been shown in the U.S. (Back flap)

I want this book...it look a good book with many ideas.
thanks and ciao ciao
on my way to order a copy...btw, saw several southern quilts come up at a local auction. There was some amazing folk pottery there as well so lots of "outsiders" in attendance. The locals were amazed at how much the quilts went for...a few years ago I could get them for 10-50 dollars but this auction it was more like $200-500!
That looks amazing LeeAnn!
OH YEH! Thanks for the info LeeAnn. I had almost ordered it but was not too certain of the content. Now I will certain place my order.
Well now as if we need another reason to want to be in San Diego...looks like a terrific show.
I'd love to see them in person!
thanks for the heads up on the book and

Looks like my kind of book.
Seems like a great excuse to book a flight....and then tell me when so I can meet you there! I gotta look in to this beauty! LeeAnn, were your ears burning this morning, just HAD to include you in my blog post....Love, Em
So incredible and inspiring quilts LeeAnn!!.
Will you post some more pictures for me?.
I try to buy the book but they don´t ship international. Soo disappointing!!.
Since you've got the book, maybe you can tell me something:
How many quilts are pictured, and how many of them come with maker's information?
I haven't seen the exhibit yet, but there's been some discussion among quilt historians, and some feel the assignment of a visual style to African-American quilters without proper attribution is a little dubious.
Thanks for any info, you can provide.
