"Tiki Room" 70" x 54"
There was a bar called the "Tiki Room" where I grew up in Oregon. I remember longing to go inside, but I was too young. Once I became of age, the attraction had faded, and I never entered the place. It's gone now. But my childhood fantasy is still alive.
I imagined it all beaded curtains,
Hula girls,
Tiki statues and surfer boys.
It's made with this "Crumbler" template, which I won in a drawing from Kathy. She's making a really lovely quilt with the same template and her reproduction fabrics.
I've been checking out my designs with the black and white function in iPhoto. It helps me achieve light/dark balance and see where I've got "muddy" places that need to be corrected. Really helpful!

My neighbor has a "tiki lounge" it's only open in the summer and everyone that comes gets to sign their name inside! Love using B&W setting on my camera when putting lots of blocks on the wall, really keeps the value in check!
Love this! Looks like a great way to use some fabrics that aren't necessarily your favorites and have them just pop as color!
This quilt looks so neat :)
I adore this quilt! (I think I say that about everything here, but it's true). Are these vintage fabrics?
Love it!!! You & I must have stashes that were separated at birth!
Love the quilt and its inspirational story
WooHoo, It's a Tiki Party!! The layout looks like Lava Lamps, so perfect for those fun fabrics. I love it, another fabulous quilt!!
Oh, I LOVE THIS! I've been hoarding Hawaiian, Surfer, and hibiscus prints, just WAITING for the right pattern!!! This is it. :)

Love it!
Fantastic. I love the way you take ordinary fabrics and combine them into wonderful quilts.
I agree with Miki Willa, your fabric combinations are so wonderful, your eye for colour and pattern are incredible. I adore this! xo
Love how the little hula girl and surfer crept in! Fun :)
This is so great! Love all the color, and such a creative way to place the colors for a different effect with the tumbler pieces
This brings to mind the song played at the Disney Tiki Room... now it will be in my head all day.... The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki room. Oh and the quilt is fabulous!
Love your "Tiki Room" quilt. So fresh and cute!! Julierose
what a great quilt for a cool summer evening. love all those fabrics - recycled clothing?
I like the way the fabrics blend in with each other and I like the way the fabric is repeated elsewhere.
It is fabulous!
I tried to win that ruler - it looked so cool. Your quilt is amazing!!
Love this quilt! Thanks for the tip about the b&w image for value checking, too.
Wonderful job
Your quilt is fantastic with such a great collection of tropical fabrics.
Your style is so refreshing. It's a great inspiration for using the Crumbler.
Wowzers! I love the way you used the color in this piece! And for some odd reason, this really reminds me Trader Vic's in Chicago! I was 19 when my aunt took me there. It must have been because of WWII and the South Pacific that there were so many Tiki Rooms across the U.S. then. I think you've captured the feel! Love it! You have such a way with fabric!
I'm over the moon for your quilt! it is so fun and new. Love the fabrics.
Can I pin it?
I'd love to make one of these the possibilities would be fun.
What a clever idea to check out designs in the B&W mode. I'm all about the contrast.
love it, the colours and the story behind it :-)
Fantastic quilt! Great idea to check the balance with a black and white picture.
Was that the place in Salem? Hubby and I went there once for dinner right before it closed down. I always loved the exterior of that place.
