According to quilt historian, Barbara Brackman, January 22 is National Polka Dot Day!
So I went digging in the cupboard for a few polka dot flimsies to celebrate the day.
This one was made a few years ago in a class with Freddy Moran.
It's the "Liberated Wedding Ring" pattern in the book, Freddy and Gwen Collaborate Again.
This one was made around 2007 in a class with Kaffe Fassett.
Both of these quilts are made of all dots or dot-like prints.
I'd be hard-pressed to find a quilt in my house that doesn't include a number of dotty fabrics!
Here's a block from my design wall today.
And here's a sneak peek of Scrappy Trip--half sewn together!
(Excuse the crummy photos. I took the flimsies outside to photograph.
It's so cold, my lens fogged up!)

Hi! Your quilts are so beautiful! Just while ago I got my first polka dots?! Could you please show more your sweet dog! I had two collies (blue merle and the classic brown) and they were so wonderful! x Teje
Happy Polka Dot Day!! I love your flimsies, the liberated Wedding Ring is really fun! Youve done classes woth some fabulous teachers. Your scrappy trip quilt is fabulous and huge!! How many blocks is it? I ended up with 56. I was surprised at how heavy a top it is, must be all those seams.
Happy Polka Dot Day! Lots of fun fabric, just looking at them makes me smile. Love your big trip - this makes me want to start one right away...
; )
I love your dotty quilts! I remember the cartoon Ritchie Rich and he had a little friend named Dot. She was obsessed with polka dots - I wonder if she's the National Polka Dot Day girl?
Happy Dot Day!!! They do add joy to any quilt, don't they? Love seeing so many of your dotty quilts.
I love your trip around the world!! And I think I was in that same Kaffe class with you. Your quilts are beautiful!

22 degrees here today at noon.....oh my last winter in the Northeast :0)!!!
Love the dots, I think Polka dots definitely deserve a day all their own ! and I'm already collecting for 11-11.
Happy Sewing
I'm glad I worked with polka dots yesterday. Love all the color in your pictures today.
Your scrappy trip is fantastic!!
I put polka dots in everything...any day of the year. I have some in all my postage stamp pages. In fact, I learned to dance the polka in 7th grade gym in MN...aka Lawrence Welk country...and my favorite Strauss is the Champagne Polka. Love your dotted ties!!!
wheee! I've definitely been buying polka dots the last year or so, but don't have anything fun like your quilts. It was 22 degrees here in MD today. aaaghhh!
Lovely polka dots!!!I will include them in my stripy along!
Seriously? And I missed it?
I will mark it down for next year.

The scrappy square quilt is coming out beautifully!
all the dots are great fun. The construction of the bow tie is great I'm reinspired to search for fabrics for the TAW.
So cheerful & fun! I adore the Kaffe Fasset class quilt top. The polka dots on the muted background just makes my brain spin.:) Love it!

I'm so glad National Polka-dot day comes in the dead of winter to cheer us all up. Is there anything better than polka-dots? What an invention, and your quilts deliver their fun so well.
Polka dots are just one of the best things in life... they always lift my spirits!
I am continually amazed at the way you combine color and print... totally fearless, and just the best. Your newest, Scrappy Trip is spectacular!
What a great post for polka dot day! I started using dots about 10 years ago, and I collect them when I find them (it's getting easier!) and I also try to put some in just about everything I make. I even made one quilt that is nothing but dots of some kind - it's one of my faves. They're just so cheerful and fun!
Love your quilts, esp. the liberated wedding ring! What a cheerful quilt!
what a fun post! I loved the bow tie quilt especially. that green is the perfect foil for the Kaffe fabrics.
Happy (belated) dots day
