Better Late Than Never

I just finished this hand applique wall hanging from Sue Spargo's block of the month for 2009. It took me two years, but never mind. It was my first wool applique project, and I learned a lot. You can find this pattern in her book, Contemporary Folk.

I love the way she combines wool, cotton, velvet and silk, plus special yarns for embellishment. Now to quilt it. Hopefully that won't take a third year to complete!

Meanwhile, I've been working on the eyelashes quilt. Thanks to Victoria's and Buffy's fabric contributions, and Bonnie's consultation, it's well on its way. Only 23 more "eyes" to go!

2 years is nothing in the life of a quilt! well done on finishing. Amaxing the difference editing the colours has made to the eyes quilt. It look great.

Some projects just have to have a rest and then they seem fresh on their next outing. It's fabulous, love it as much as the eyelashes quilt.

Stunning! Only word to describe this applique!
The eyelashes are looking great too. Do you need more of any fabric? Let me know!

I'm enjoying the progress on the eyelash quilt. It is a gorgeous one. Love your applique too. My quilts tend to take a couple years or more in their finishing. I'd say that's normal!

Your Sue Spargo quilt is jaw dropping gorgeous! Mixing wools/cottons give such great texture too.

I LOVE the eyelash quilt! You must be thrilled with how well you were able to capture the feel of the antique..and yet it looks modern too?
Both quilts have an ageless beauty. :)

If you can get a hold of Material Obsession 2 there is a version of this quilt that involves appliqueing the centre "eye" and the rings onto background squares and then using strips of fabric to fill in the borders. It seems to be a slightly easier version that avoids all the curved piecing. I'm about to get started on this version, will let you know how it goes.
