Here's my first rendition of a work by the amazing Edrica Huws.
I'm using the technique I learned from Freddy Moran.
You use a glue stick to secure the scraps to a foundation.
Then you sandwich the top, batting and backing, and free-motion around the edges.
I love the look of the raw edges and random strings.
Edrica made all of hers with hand stitching.
This one is called, "Geraniums by Window," made in 1986.
I feel I have so much to learn from copying Edrica's works. She really was a master.
I'll be making more!

Your quilt is wonderful, LeeAnn, I love the reds and blues, but I hope you'll forgive me for saying that Edrica's use of light is just masterful. I'm amazed at what she accomplished just by choosing fabrics -- no painting or dyeing going on here! It's a timely reminder for me, because I have spent the past week looking at fabric paints. :)
I can't wait to see more of the series! I think you've made a good choice for someone to learn from, and I hope I will learn something too. :)
Your flower pots and saucers are just perfect for the posies! The dots and plaids are a charming choice for a floral, too.

I had a go with the glue stick but it seemed to come out the other side and what does it do to the iron?

Great technique to use if you know the quilt isn't going to get too much rough handling. This it textile art at its best. Edrica's piece is beyond belief. She has used the scraps to capture the depth and movement of the piece so cleverly. I am off to check out your link about her. I am sure this is the beginning of a whole series of works by you!

Wow, you made an amazing interpretation of the original work! This looks like a fun way to work with the fabrics. I esp. like your background! Do you put batting behind before you do the stitching around all the pieces?
